How do I use the Windows Watch List gadget?
If you are using Windows Vista or a more recent version such as Windows 7, you can download and install our Watch List gadget and use it to easily keep track of a selected set of equity prices from your desktop without having to log in to your Portfolio:
Download and install the gadget
- The gadget can be installed onto your Windows sidebar by simply clicking the 'Download gadget' link next to the 'Add' button in the Watch List panel once you are logged into your Portfolio
- The gadget will then download and an option will pop up asking if you wish to 'Save the file to disk' or 'Install' it
- Click on the 'Install' button and the gadget will be automatically installed into your Windows sidebar on your desktop
Using the gadget
- You can click on the 'Equiniti' heading of the gadget on your desktop and your default internet browser will launch and open the Shareview home page
- You can click on the 'Buy/Sell' button in the gadget and your default internet browser will launch and open the Shareview Dealing log in page
- The gadget can be removed from the sidebar and remain installed on your computer by right clicking on it and selecting 'Close gadget' from the pop up menu
- The gadget can be added back into the sidebar by right clicking on the sidebar and selecting 'Add gadgets' from the pop up menu. Then from the window that appears double click on the 'Equiniti gadget'
Uninstall the gadget
- To uninstall the gadget right click on the sidebar and select 'Add gadgets'… from the pop up menu.
- A window showing all installed gadgets should appear. Select the 'Equiniti gadget', right click on it, and from the pop up menu select 'Uninstall'.
- The gadget will be uninstalled and deleted from your computer
- To re-install it you will need to download and install the gadget again (above)
Points to note about gadgets
- Gadgets in Windows sit in your sidebar desktop control. Windows does allow this control to be switched off, so if anyone with access to the computer has turned off the sidebar feature then the gadget will not be visible
- Gadgets will only show the first three equities from your Watch List and if you remove an equity from your Watch List in your Portfolio, it will also be removed from your gadget
- Windows gadgets sometimes lose the connection to the internet, this is an internal Windows issue and will lead to the gadget displaying the message 'Data unavailable' or similar. The gadget will automatically retry its connection to the internet every 30 minutes, so this error will be resolved once the internet connection is restored
