What to do if you have lost share certificates

Countersigning

Your letter of indemnity will need to be guaranteed by an insurance company. Sometimes known as countersigning or 'joining in' an indemnity, this service may incur a small charge.

If the value of the missing certificates is less than £50,000, you can ask us to arrange the countersignature with our insurers whilst we process your letter of indemnity. There is a charge for this; the amount depends on the value of the replacement share certificates as the higher the value, the greater the risk to the insurer. The current charges are:

 Value of Shares  Countersignature charge
Up to £1,000   £22.43
£1,001 - £5,000  £34.11
£5,001 - £10,000  £51.06
£10,001 - £15,000  £71.32
£15,001 - £25,000  £83.95
£25,001 - £30,000  £123.40
£30,001 - £50,000  £214.25
