By law all banks and building societies must put in place procedures to prevent financial crime. As a result of this and to comply with Financial Services Authority requirements it may be necessary for the Society to carry our checks against publicly available records and credit records using an electronic authentication system or we may request certain documentation from you. This will involve the production of one document to prove identity and another one to prove current permanent residential address. When requested, an original document is required in all cases except a Passport, where a copy is sufficient (or a Driving Licence where a certified copy is sufficient).
Examples of acceptable documents are as follows:-
Proof of Identity • Passport (copy) • Driving Licence (certified copy) • Government Pension Statement • HMRC Tax Notification • Benefits Agency Letter
Proofs of Residency • Utility Bill • Council Tax Bill • Water Bill • Bank / Building Society Statement • Pension or Benefits Letter
Important Notes:
Proofs of identity and residency cannot be from the same source.
Although we require original documents, we do not recommend that highly valuable documents such as Passports and Driving Licences are sent through the post. In such cases we can accept copy Passports and/or certified copies of Driving Licences (certified by a solicitor, accountant, post master or government official).
Please send all correspondence and documentation to the following address (please remember to quote your reference number in all communication as failure to do so may delay your application):-
