What is a share certificate?

A share certificate verifies a shareholding in a company on a physical paper certificate. The certificate will show the shareholder’s name, the company in which the shares are owned and the number of shares held.

Buy and sell share certificates

Shareview Dealing allows you to buy and sell share certificates for a one-off fee in all companies where Equiniti is the registrar. This applies to companies for which we maintain their share register. Here is a list of companies you can trade with us. You can access real time pricing on your shares and then choose to buy, sell or hold.

Why do investors sell share certificates?

  • To avoid the worry of losing paper certificates, and the hassle and cost of replacing them
  • To realise the current value of the shares
  • To avoid paying ongoing fees – only pay a one-time charge, and at a competitive rate
  • To act ahead of the deadline set to make paper share certificates obsolete (date yet to be determined)

Buy and sell share certificates

Shareview is part of Equiniti, a FTSE 250, listed company that is fully authorised and regulated by the FCA.

Over 50% of FTSE 100 companies trust us to manage their share register and we work with 28 million shareholders and pensioners across the UK.

Once we have received your documents and finalised the trade, the money will be sent to you by your choice of BACS or a cheque. If your bank details cannot be validated, then you will be issued a cheque.
BACS usually takes three working days to show in your account, from the day the payment is released.

Step-by-step sale timeline

This timeline provides an indication of the earliest possible time that each part of the sale process may be completed.

  • Day 1 – The sale is placed, you have entered into an agreement with Shareview Dealing to sell your shares on the UK stock market.
  • Day 1 to 2 – A contract note confirming the sale and pre-filled CREST Transfer form will be sent to you via first class post.
