Reinvest my dividends

This page covers Dividend Reinvestment Plans (DRIP) and SCRIP Dividend Schemes (SCRIP).

Dividend reinvestment is a convenient, easy and cost effective way to build your shareholding by receiving shares instead of a cash dividend.

Participating companies may offer more than one reinvestment option but usually only offer one option per dividend paid, and may change or suspend the options offered. Elections not used for a particular dividend, will be retained and applied to subsequent dividends where that option is provided.

DRIP

The DRIP is provided by Equiniti Financial Services Limited (’Equiniti FS’), and is a convenient, easy and cost effective way to build a shareholding by using cash dividends to buy additional shares. Rather than receiving a dividend cheque or having a bank account credited with a cash dividend, Equiniti FS will use the dividends payable to DRIP participants to purchase shares on their behalf in the market.

Whole shares are purchased with any residual money being carried forward and added to the next dividend. However, if the amount of the dividend, less any dealing costs incurred in completing the purchase, is insufficient to buy a single share no charge is made and the dividend is carried forward.

SCRIP

The SCRIP is provided by the participating company, and allows shareholders to elect to receive newly issued company shares, equivalent to the value of any cash dividend, rather than receiving a dividend cheque through the post or having their bank account credited with a dividend payment.

Whole shares are issued with any residual money being carried forward and added to the next dividend. However, if the amount of the dividend is insufficient to receive a single share the cash value of the dividend is carried forward. As the shares are newly issued there is no dealing charge or stamp duty payable.

Cash Balances

Any residual cash balances following a reinvestment will be retained and applied to future dividends.

Important: Cash balances for DRIP can only be applied to subsequent DRIP purchases, and cash balances for Scrip can only be applied to the allotment of new shares received via a SCRIP.

Paying a cash dividend when DRIP/Scrip option is withdrawn for a particular dividend

DRIP/SCRIP options can be withdrawn by the client company at anytime. When this takes place, any existing instruction you’ve given us - to pay your cash dividends to a bank, building society or third party - will then be re-applied as default. If you think that we currently hold out-of-date bank/building society details for any of your shareholdings, please click the button below.
